  • My first Black Madeira

I think this fig literally sat on my tiny tree for about 4 months. My plant, which was a small cutting over the winter, grew pretty fast in the spring and looked like it was outgrowing the FMV. Then we got a deluge of summer rains, and the rust took hold. This fig was trying to ripen with just 2 scraggly, rusty leaves.

It has been great fig ripening weather lately - warm (low 80s), dry and low humidity. But today, we got a bunch of rain and this BM split. It could have still used a little more time to ripen. The skin was pretty hard and tough. But I can tell this fig will be great when properly ripened.
