  • Dall'Osso on Ebay

Have had a couple of people PM me and ask about the seller of this plant on Ebay and if the person is trustworthy. The plant currently on Ebay is from Ryan (Churl82) (forum name IamKriya). He is a friend, been to his home as he lives not far from me. The plant he has came from Olga and I would buy from him with complete confidence. The plant in Ryans posting is quite large, Could take probably 8 cuttings from it. I was impressed. That fig is like the holy grail..... While I am not one to advertise sales, even my own and prefer to simply use word of mouth I thought it was important to warn the members and to clarify which would be a safe buy and which I would avoid at all costs. This one safe http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fig-Tree-DAL...p2056016.l4276

There is also someone on Ebay selling Dall'Osso cuttings and I would definitely NOT buy those. Wanted to post just so there is no confusion as I don't want any of the members to get stung.

    Thank you very much,Wills!

Yes, the tree currently on eBay is a good-sized one and has excellent branching.

I agree with WillsC on the cuttings. I messaged the seller and was wondering where they obtained their tree and they would not give out any information. Said they didnt want to promote another seller.. lol Then I ask if they would cancel my bid and they said they would three times. But they did not and it drove the price up on it.. I don't like it when people does shady stuff. If you put in their ebay id on the other forum they come up as scammers..

Thanks for the heads up! I'm nervous about bidding on any cuttings that I see on ebay unless I recognize the seller from the forum.

Taverna, thanks! The mother tree is vigorous, fortunately.

Can anyone elaborate on why this is "Holy Grail" of figs? most intense flavor profile, aesthetics, growth rate, crop yield, etc?

          None of what you mentioned.
One guy painted this fig a while back as a two colored creature and many people now try to reproduce his art in the real life in a form of a fruit.
I am not sure if anyone has succeeded but the mystery around this variety is still quite high

Has anyone even seen a mutated fig on these trees. They are getting sold but not even a picture. I have a fake dal osso but it is not black. It is green bronzeish with red ribs. Around forty percent are mutated. It looks like the fig in the pic that is normal.

The double fig, the fig inside a fig does happen. A member here has a plant that does it on every fig on the plant...so very very odd. While the one he has is not a Dall'Osso it shows the trait does occur. I trust Olga completely if she tells me the plant she sold is Dall'Osso I believe her. Last one a friend and I bid on it up to $1010 and still lost...

That's freaky. Like they are giving birth to baby figs.

Do they ripen properly that way? Spoil easily?

Yep but the one you show is just at the top, on some it is more toward the middle and more pronounced. While all fig varieties can (or so I hear) throw doubles now and then it is very rare to have a variety that does it on all or almost all the figs on the plant.....I have only ever seen that on one plant, the one I mentioned. From what I have been told the Dall'Osso throws the doubles mostly? Only? On the brebas. The variety is a mystery so I want it Just like in all things oddities are sought after, just like Jolly Tiger. Collectors collect.....
