  • Introduction

Hello everyone. My name is Luigi from Chicago. I've been growing fig trees for 3 years and I guess I got the bug---.)
1st fig trees planted here were from my grandpa, which he brought back from Sicily in the 1950's. A black fig and a white. Thanks to technology and internet I was able to learn more about the fig trees and how many varieties there are. I have limited space where I live so I'm trying to figure out what grows best in my area and what tastes better.
    I'm happy to be here.

Welcome Luigi, you will enjoy it here except for a few trouble makers that make guessing games any give away fig sticks. Other than that it's a pretty good group.

                                    Hi,
Thank you all for a warm welcome.

Winter protection of my fig trees in ground: I use carpet and tarp. Since fig trees are bendable I bend them over and use landscaping blocks or anything heavy that I have. Once they are all down I cover them with carpet then after I use tarps to keep them dry. After that, I but 2X4s or landscaping block whatever I have that's heavy so the wind doesn't blow the tarp away and also to keep roaming rodents from finding a small hole and eating away at the wood.

You put wood down on ground or just to bend tree down into soil and carpet?
