Over the weekend I helped a friend pick up 3 whole house generators......those things are HEAVY at 560 pounds and I still have not recovered. Just because you can lift one end of one does not mean you SHOULD lift one end: especially in my old age
As the universe seems to work for me the third one we picked up was in north Florida and as it turns out the gentleman was a professor at the University of Florida and teaches hydroponics and aquaponics. What are the odds? Have recently decided to raise Tilapia and who do I run in to? A guy who teaches about it and has Tilapia. My friend who wanted the generators is big in to hydroponics and I did not think I was ever going to get him out of there. The tour though was very interesting as he grows in a lot of different styles so he can trial them and show them to visitors.
His wife runs a rose nursery and the professor had set up for her a NFT system for rooting rose cuttings. She said it knocks the rooting down from 6 weeks to 2 weeks and that impressed me and really caught my attention. He does not use a nutrient solution that is premade but instead diverts some of the water from his Koi pond to feed the NFT. I don't see why this could not be used for fig propagation. Has anyone tried it? Once my Tilapia are up and running I am going to give it a trial and see how it works but would love feedback from anyone who may use or has tried this technique.
