  • Upcoming cuttings sale time and a question........

I hope to post the list Friday night at 10:00 pm est.........for Monday/Tuesday shipping.

Have a question and majority shall rule.

The cuttings will be either 2 cuttings or 3 cuttings per variety so in other words you could not order 1 or 5 of any one variety though you could order 4 or 6 depending on if 2 or 3 is chosen. Trying to make my life easier as I can pre-pack in the desired number.

My apologies to Chuck as he hates polls
    65
    Two cuttings per variety
    53.85%
    35
    Three cuttings per variety
    46.15%
    30

As a noob, I am just a little uncomfortable still with starting only two and would certainly prefer buying three at a time. Thanks for asking. What varieties will you offer, or do we wait to find out?

Lol love your name btw. I don't know yet, it will be a substantial number of varieties, I know that is vague but I still have a lot of cutting to do.

Yes......it is really cultivar dependent more than anything.like a 3 pack for $15 3 pack for $21 or 3 pack for $30? Something like that, I have not got to that point yet but I want to make sure it is substantially below Ebay prices.

  • #6
I think the 2 packs are more exciting, not just because the stakes are higher for each cutting, but because it maximizes the number of varieties people can get within their budgets. Also, as bigfig mentioned, it spreads the varieties around to more people.

Good luck with the sale, Wills! Remember, sleep is for sissies

Two sounds good to me, because that will stretch your cuttings out and give more people the opportunity to get some. Wow it's going to be a mad dash to order. Hope wifey won't need the computer when the list goes up.

I vote 1, I am so good at rooting I might need to change that to 5. Is that an option? Well 2 then so it will be an even number.

Two cuttings is the better option to my mind. The more people who have a variety the more quickly it gets distributed. If you fail with 2 you will get replacements faster if more people have it. The fact is that the good rooters will mostly get 2 plants (no one's perfect) and will have some to give away or sell cheaply or at least have more cuttings in a year or 2. Wide distribution is what ensures success. If you're not good at rooting send your two to someone who is and work out a deal

What if it stays 50%? Can I be the only one who gets 2 votes?

Also, I think people should not be alowed to order 2 packs until everyone's had time to order 1.

So I'm voting for a 1 pack limit until, say Sat at 5 pm est, for example. That also keeps the distribution at its widest.

I used to use malathion on dormant figs as it does control scale easily.

But there is a bad side as I am setting up bee hives this year.
Not sure how I will control scale this year.

Hi WillsC. I wanted to comment on your sale. I applaud the sale and can't wait for it to start. With that in mind, might I suggest you NOT put all the varieties up for sale at the same time. I can see a mass log in to your site and the possibility of it crashing because of everyone trying to log in and ordering at the same time. Might I suggest you spread the listings over several days. That way those who miss a desired cutting on Friday may be able to get their 2nd or third desired variety cutting when the next batch are posted. Forgive my impertinence but I just want there to be something good for everyone to buy. Also, if you post everything at the same time, it will be like Black Friday. Everyone rushes in at the opening bell, but don't return after the frenzy has worn off and the site becomes a ghost town. I don't know if any of this makes sense to you, I am only trying to help your site thrive.

I would also make this suggestion if it is okay. On the day your sale starts, limit the number of cuttings a member can buy per variety. This will give everyone a chance to get something they want. After a couple days, change it to unrestricted. Hope I am not out of bounds here. Good luck with the sale!!

Your opinion matters as much as anyone else. I will think about it but I don't think the server will crash. We only have 525 members.

As for the site crashing, the stats at the bottom say there are 531 members, 237 of which are active. The most users ever online was 136. Will 300 non-active members login Friday? I would think it would take a lot more traffic hammering away to pull the site offline.

In one of my previous jobs, I had to create scenarios for testing software integration and it is something that has stayed with me. I always think the worse and hope for the best.

Wait, you mean it's not Friday? And here I thought Wills was an hour late!

I have another suggestion. Maybe the list should appear an hour before you take orders so we have time to figure out what we want.
