  • Please welcome our new facebook administrator.

As I have mentioned there are some changes coming to the forum and some of them will I hope blow you away in the not so distant future thanks to some selfless talented members who have agreed to help in the projects. One of the things we want to do is have a Ourfigs facebook page. LouNeo has graciously agreed to take the job and I thank him as I have no design skill whatsoever. The facebook page will be a community same as here, it is for all the members and it will not be for sales. I would like to ask the members if they would kindly post some photos here on the thread that they would like to be part of the facebook page and Lou can pick and chose what he wants to use to get the ball rolling.

How cool! Cograts LouNeo, on this new admin appointment! Feel free to use my only "glamour fig" shot. Sorry it's teeny tiny, I can email you the original size if you choose it.
You may only view thumbnails in this gallery. This gallery has 2 photos.

              I'm gonna ask why?
Not trying to cause trouble, but some of us don't do Facebook.
Maybe I'm wrong but I see this as fragmenting our community a bit. How does it really benefit us? Now we will have yet another website to check regularly to keep up with the world of figs and fig growers. I have never seen the benefit of Facebook vs a forum like OurFigs that has so many capabilities.
So tell me why I'm wrong

I'm with you, Ed. I don't have a FB account nor do I intend on getting one. I hope it doesn't take away from the forum.

You can use any of the photos I have posted here. Probably a few hundred mostly of my left hand. The photo tab I think summarizes all the photos posted on all the threads
You may only view thumbnails in this gallery. This gallery has 2 photos.

That's pretty cool about the photo tab. I just clicked the word "Photos" by the 2 by your pictures in this post and saw all the photos posted in this thread. Thanks!

Yes and if you are not in a thread topic from the fig forum the photo tab will be pages of photos from all thread topics and list who posted it.

              Ed,

Mostly as a way to attract new members. I am not a facebook person either but it is a new world and even us fig hoarders need to move with the times.

Brian M As of right now the Facebook Page that was setup is actually just a Facebook business page which in upon itself would be just a public face on Facebook for the group. I believe Wills thoughts behind this is to use that Page to promote what the OurFigs forum is all about and use it as a recruitment tool for lack of a better word in order to help grow this forum. If Wills wants to setup a Facebook Group I will talk with him about the different settings possible, be it Open group, Closed Group, or Secret Group and see what makes the most sense for the forums goals.

In response to the concerns brought up by eboone, there is always a balancing act when bringing on an actual group or community on Facebook. As you mention there is very often a fragmentation of content and honestly very much a duplication of content and another place to check for information etc. With that said there is also a lot of plus side to it, its one more place for users to communicate with each other, its something that a lot of us may already be on most of the day anyhow, we get notification of any posts we are part of without having to "subscribe", and its instant communication which doesnt always happen on here like that. With all of that said though, right now I believe Wills actual intention is to have just a Facebook Page to promote this forum as opposed to having a group/community where people are able to full interact with each other which essentially often takes place of a forum. You definitely have valid concerns and in my short time with speaking with Wills, it seems like he would air on the side of whatever is best for the group. As I think he would say, its "Our" Group!

Thank you all for the welcomes! I look forward to it.

The idea of the FB page to advertise the presence of the forum sounds good. Thanks for the response.
