Verdolino 2019 - Main crop

Surprise surprise this wound up being my first main crop of 2019, slightly beating out de tres esplets and Florea this year by a day or two.

This is a 3 year old tree and my first time tasting the fruit off my tree, last year was a wash for 90% of my varieties due to swd. I had previously tasted this fruit at Mario's place about 2 years ago and it was an excellent little fig, and I mean little!!! My tree has grown well and it only has about 15-20 fruit , so they are significantly larger.

We just received about 2+ inches of rain yesterday and I was sure all my ripening fruit would taste bland. I pulled this fruit probably a day early......patience

Very nice berry flavor, I only expect it to get better over time. A definite must have for anyone who wants short season figs!

Hey Matt, our of your collection are those figs your top 3 for short seasons? Are there any other varieties you recommend for Long Island thank don’t need a head start?

These seem to be my earliest 3 historically, but there are others that ripen not too long after them that are must haves. RDB / Smith / Long D'Aut are three staple varieties that ripen not too much after and all grow incredibly well here and taste great.

Good choice...I remember impulse accumulating figs!

My buddy Jsavkov is the maker of the knife. He also custom made a grafting knife as well for me.

No head starts this year for me...most varieties had late starts and we're stuck in garage longer than they should have.

This would be a great variety for you in blistering upstate
