Anyone ever air layer a Meyer lemon? I have a green branch I am going to try and cut and root in water, since I want to take it off before winter. It got me curious as to how easy it would be to air layer a branch during a spring growth flush. Pics of some lemons hopefully setting and a flush of flowers growing.

Not an expert on lemons, i only grow a few satsuma's but to my knowledge most Meyer lemons are grafted on Flying dragon or Yuma ponderosa rootstock to dwarf them and improve cold hardiness.

I would think the air layer would be easier than rooting a cutting. Just keep mom plant happy through the winter, and she can push all that spring energy into your air layer.Houston, TX Zone 9aComment

Lemons root very easy from cuttings. Having them on there own roots is good if the top gets killed it will sprout back up true to type.Nothing in the world takes the place of growing citrus till figs come along. Ray City, Ga. Zone 8 b.Comment

They don't actually graft to dwarf them, they are dwarfing on their own roots and are often sold both ways. I have one grafted and one not grafted

They root in damp soil with mist or in a ziplock bag. The soil needs to be on the wet side compared to rooting Figs. Luckily they don't mold life Figs and green wood that is not lignified but not too tinder either. Actually they grow large on there own roots and lemons are not compatible with trifiolita rootstock.
