I have been ripening figs from both of these trees the past week and I actually confused myself when I went through the pics and could not figure out which was which because they looked so much the same!! i didn't realize it at the time but I went and picked figs from each tree and compared again and they look and taste almost identical!!!
I thought I may have mislabeled the Socorro Black since I was 100% certain of the Bourjasotte Grise, having collected the cutting myself from the mother tree at Prusch Park. I have Socorro Black from 2 sources and I just ripened the first fig from the second source today and it is also indistinguishable.
What is the history of these 2 figs? When were they found? How did the tree at Prusch originally get there? Why was it called Bourjasotte Grise? Does it match the European counterpart? I have loads of questions but for now, in my climate, these 2 trees appear identical. Leaves, fig size, fig color both outside and inside, ripening date... and I am 100% ok with this because it is an absolutely amazing variety.
Has anyone else seen these striking resemblances or is it the wasp that may have caused them to react so much like one another? I have now had 4-5 figs from each tree and there are minor variances in color from fig to fig but this is true of both varieties with one being darker one day and lighter the next.
