This is a Bryant Dark that I was gifted. I got as a dormant bareroot plant, potted it up and put it with the rest of my sleeping trees in the coolest, darkest corner of the basement. Granted, this is the area where I now have the cuttings set up, but the lights haven't been rigged there yet. I noticed a few of the napping trees pushing buds last week, but nothing on the scale of what I found this morning. So, I'm moving it to a place where it will get more light (the fixtures down there have 6100K tubes). Temp will be the same, but I figure if this tree wants to grow I should give it what it needs. Thoughts?

Hi Bryant. The growth appears very tender. If it were to be forced into dormancy, I honestly don't think that fresh growth would handle it well. I don't think that tender growth would come back to life in the spring, BUT, it may sprout a new branch. If you have the lighting and space for it to stay alive, I'd go that route. Hope all is well.Frank ~ zone 7a VA

I have a bunch of small plants that are starting to grow.My plans are to put them under some 6500 K bulbs to keep them from getting weak, leggy growth. So far the bigger plants that should produce this summer are staying dormant. We also seem to be starting to get real winter cold, so that should keep the others from sprouting. I'm using fluorescent fixtures with the ballast removed, and 24 watt, 6500K LED bulbs.Hi my name is Art.
