  • Pictures from Western Pa. (The good and the bad)

First off the good! The first two pictures are of Ischia Black (UCD) showing signs of life and a few breba. The others are of a few actually green things in my yard.
The bad pictures are of the freaking snow that won't stop and my wood pile that is being eaten up by my wood burner that heats the house/garage/ and GH.
You may only view thumbnails in this gallery. This gallery has 9 photos.

Love the pictures, Art! Even the snow ones! But the fig ones makes me smile more.

On the other end of the state we are also in a winter wonderland...or frozen hellscape, take your pick!

It doesn't want to end. Hey Kelby how far are you from Penn State? I'm headed there next weekend.

3 hours to State College. I don't miss that drive! I'm not far from Shailesh, if that helps.

That first picture is great. By the looks of your land, that is exactly what I am looking for in my next house. If everything falls into place, maybe this time next year.

Look at the red veins on the Black Ischia leaves. I've noticed their red bracts before, but not on the undersides of developing leaves.

Thanks for the photos. I'd be very happy to get some of your precipitation. We got rain last night! - all of 0.02 of an inch. Just enough to make working outside this morning clammy.

Your greenhouse looks like mine, covered in snow. I am opening mine today, I just hacked a path through the ice. The Panachee is being repotted and fertilized by tomorrow. The hell with winter.

Art the Black Ischia looks great too. I am up-potting my freshly rooted baby by tomorrow, I hope it will grow like yours. Have you experienced any fmv issues with BI, like so many others have?

Rafael, Yes it does have fmv. This tree is in a 20 gal pot. I might jump it to a 40 gal this year and see what happens.

It must take a lot of wood to keep the temps above freezing all winter. Are the figlets and fig leaves on plants inside the GH?

Ed, Yeah those pictures are from inside of the GH. Last year about a week or two into March all the plants inside of the GH were leafed out.
This record cold we are having isn't helping.

Also I don't let it get below 42. On sunny days it can be 5 degrees, but inside the GH it's close to 90.

It's 14 x 20. Riga XL. It's the biggest that Riga offers, but I wish I had three of them.

                              art,

I think it finally stopped snowing here, so you should see an end to it soon (at least for a few days).

That's good. I just got it from plowing for the second time today. It's slowing a bit.

Nice pictures. I do not miss the snow at all. Brrr. The only saving grace is it keeps the plants insulated on these really cold nights. Looks like you have a beautiful place. It will be nice to see pictures in the Spring when it greens up.
