  • Dall'Osso Auction

Last year one of these went for over $300. It is from a very nice lady and fig collector extraordinaire, Olga.
I know, I know, still no 100% proof without picture of fruit, but this variety is as rare as a unicorn.
For sale dormant Dall'Osso fig plant. This Dall'Osso about 20 inch tall from the soil and soon will wake up. Dall'Osso is a rare fig with purplish black fruit of exelent flavor and variable shape.

There are more than 1 strain of Dall'osso. The original one should have 2 colors, and there an old black variety. The 2 tone one is very rare in Italy. But the all black version is the one offered in a couple nurseries in Italy from what I was told.

The seller of the JT is asking $425 to start - but has no bids thus far. But there are 22 days left in the auction.

I think there are some individual JTs that are pretty to look at - but I have no desire to get one. Let those who really want it have the few that seem to be available.

What makes me laugh is the people selling the non-varigated Jolly Tigers. I mean hey you get a green fig plant that doesn't taste good. If I were spending that kind of money (and with a greenhouse to build I'm not) I would buy the Dall'Osso.

I would buy an air ticket and set up tent outside Olga house and be her gardener for 2 months to get this variety. Only fear factor is
her husband is a crack shot, going by the bulls eye score I saw in the backyard. Good luck to seller and bidders.

How much is a ticket to Italy, preferably close to a nursery that sells all the good figs?

I asked Olya (Olga) about the taste of this fig the other day and she said reports from Italy is that it is very good. The unique shape is interesting, but taste is more important to me so that was good to hear.

Hershell, push Wills a little harder! LOL

I never met an Italian fig that I didn't love but you don't have to go that deep to get a great tasting Italian fig.
Good luck Olga, you got a "hot" one there

A couple of you guys should split the cost, grow it this summer, then send the other some cuttings this winter if it gets crazy high. Just a thought.

So rare there are not one pic of the fruit? Really? When will people give this fairy tale a rest? 150 years of fools paying lots of money and not one pic of the fabled fig? WOW! I guess people think it is a lottery ticket.

Look at her completed listings. She recently had one go by at $9.99, unbid on. Then she sold three for nice profits. Actually, one was cuttings. Then look what this thread did for her.

Her auction without a bid probably had an error in the listing and was cancelled.

The winning bidder of the latest one is not a member here and probably doesn't read posts here. The second place bidder does hang out here.

I would trade a Dall Osso for a Luv, Morettina or Dottato Nero anyday.
