Rob Ster with you being in Europe those varieties should not be to hard to get, I know Paolo Belloni has the original and true Luv and the Dottato Nero is available from many Vivai (nurseries) in Italy included but not limited to Belfiore Vivaio near Florence or Benigni Vivaio In Ascoli Piceno

So rare there are not one pic of the fruit? Really? When will people give this fairy tale a rest? 150 years of fools paying lots of money and not one pic of the fabled fig? WOW! I guess people think it is a lottery ticket.

This is a really interesting read regarding the veracity of this fig. I tend to agree with ediblelandscaping that until proven otherwise, the Galessio Fetifero is a myth.
I read that thread too. Personalities getting involved was unfortunate. The story in some way does not seem complete. But then I am not a potential customer.

Goddammit! I missed out again. For that price, I would have gotten at least a dozen. Just need to remortgage my house first, but who needs a house when you have such a fig tree!

If someone can pinpoint the region the true Dall'osso come from in Italy I will find it. I have over 50 cousin and family that live from Milan to Malta. I have them looking now but would be easier to tell them what area is from. Here is the other thing is because the entertaining sales hype what's making this tree in such demand ? Or are they always this sought after. Hypothetically I say I get a dozen cuttings and grow them all a foot tall. Are they still going to be as popular?

Yes. Then one can have the roots, another the stem, and short straw gets the leaves.

The (supposed) green version that I have is from near Firenze (Florence).

Frank, my tree is bigger than 5"... maybe 1.5 feet. As for the variety, I can only go on what our Italian friends (the sisters) told me... T told me it's the green version. As always though, I'll wait for fruit before I make any bodacious claims. :-) - Mike

Mike, how did you do with your own cutting? The one you sent me rooted just fine but the tree, if you can call it a tree, is a whopping 5" tall so far. Are you sure it is the green version? Olya sent me one last year and that one is 3 feet tall. It should fruit this year.

I have a tree that is supposedly the all green version of this. It came from known contacts in Italy. I gave cuttings to a couple of other members last year. I'm waiting to see it fruit. But maybe rather than giving away cuttings, I'll start selling on ebay. Congrats to you Olya!

Did he paint it on purpose? Had a large fig orchard, needed to sell more and the things were going slowly. The Internet was not as fast back then and since a picture worth a thousand words, he came up with a nice solution !
