Fig trees for sale cheap in Portland Oregon

First of all. I clarify that I do not own this place . I do not have any benefit in introducing this place . Just a great place that people in the Northwest can come and buy fig trees for a very reasonable price :

Harvest Nursery does have plants for cheap prices. I have had problems with them. 1. One of the workers was rude to my daughter w/o provocation as we walked into the store. 2. They had plants advertised on their website that there was no way that they were selling at the store (they hadn't been propagated yet). 3. They potted up plants without teasing apart the root ball, so that root-bound plants were sold surrounded with soil in a bigger pot. I will not go back there-- it just wasn't worth it.

Sorry for your case . I am not going to defend for them regarding what happened to you , but I did buy many good plants at Harvest Nursery last August . I got several 1 G Negrone , 1 G Olympia for $5.00 each, several 1 G Texas everbearing, several 1 G LSU gold, 2 G Stella (from their tree loaded of fruits, located near the entrance gate, so I am sure that the one I bought is a real Stella ) for $10 and several other varieties.. All those plants are growing healthy,
I am happy with Harvest Nursery so far . Their plants sell fast, because nobody can beat their price . I also bought a 1 G green tea tree for $5.00 . Everything there are same price depending on the size of the pot .
Oh I forgot to tell you that I love the 1 G pots. Once I was home , I did see the root bound problem that you mentioned above .I guess the people of Harvest Nursery did not have time to separate the plants that sticked together , so they were overgrown . Each tree had 5,6,7 small branches . I separated them with some roots attached to each and repotted . I ended up having 5 or 6 small plants for each 1 G pot that I bought ----> less than $1.00 a plant . That was a great deal ! Yeah I cannot buy anywhere for that price . Why should I complain ?

I returned to Harvest Nursery again in October, saw the young woman (who ran the place) sitting at a pile of dirt . She was busy rooting . I know that they did buy some fig plants (like Vern's Brown Turkey and Black Spanish , and ???? ) because they have tags from a wholesaler business

Another nursery that sell fig trees cheap is Al's Nursery in Woodburn (30 minutes drive from Portland) . I got 15 G Desert King for $28.00 (about 5' high) , 15 G Magnolia for $28.00 . They said that they will have more varieties in Spring . I will be back Oregon sometimes in April to see what varieties they will carry this year .

FWIW - I just purchased 7 fig trees from Harvest Nursery last weekend, they really do have fantastic prices though I can agree that they aren't the most customer friendly, since I don't feel the need to have superficial niceties from strangers it didn't bother me in the slightest that the teen helping me was clearly disinterested in me as a person and helping me find anything even though appointments are required and some assistance is necessary. I too noticed when I re-potted my new trees that they had recently been potted up to the next size and the roots were sill in the square pot bound shape of the previous size. It made me sad I paid for the next size up when they were clearly still the same size as the smaller ones, but in all fairness this is the time of year to transition to bigger pots so Fall would most likely have a better chance of more established roots filling the pot more appropriately. The plants are also leagues cheaper than other Portland Area Nursery's and I got my 7 trees (2 - 2gal @$20ea, 1 - 1 gal @$10ea and 4 - 1qt @$5ea) for $70 which I feel is a pretty reasonable price. Its pretty far out for me to go to, and I didn't get to look at anything but the figs, but I would consider them again if I was in the area.

last spring I got a bunch of small petit negri plants from Harvest by mail order and repotted them in gallons.Plants were the most severely FMV ridden things I ever saw and they struggled to make small twisted leaves and never made any significant shoot growth like all my others from other vendors did til I granted them euthanasia.Guess you get what you pay for(usually)!

I got several large Alma trees as rootstock from Harvest. For $10 each. For the size of tree (4 feet tall and thick caliper) they were a great deal.

I'm a big fan of Harvest Nursery. I love their principles, prices and selection.

My Alma's don't seem to hold up well in our rain. I had one die from root rot. Just curious what your experience is and why you would choose it as a root stock here.

Alma is supposed to be FMV and nematodes resistant, which makes it good rootstock material. Some say it is cold sensitive but some say it is fine. I hope it is the later or a cold sensitive rootstock is no good. In PNW, you can change to a more draining mix to see how it handles the rain. I am trying it this year to see if it can handle the heat and dry weather.

Yatama - I'm sorry that was the case with your trees, most the of the trees were just starting to break dormancy but all the leaves that have on mine are looking really healthy looking so far.

Ben - I am hopeful Alma will do better in the PDX area, I wasn't going to get one but then they had such a good selection of large Alma trees that looked great I snatched one up, if it doesn't do well i'll chalk it up to newbie experimentation.

Still need to see how it will do w.r.t root rot. I have about 9 trees sitting around that seem fine. Several of my DK trees were stripped of breba and girdled by rats. For some reason Alma is not attractive to rats. That is a good thing.

I have Alma for 2 years in pot, Squirrel ate all tips as well. Also, it doesn't grow well here.
I wish we have Harvest Nursery here as well.
I did not buy any fig trees this year, I bought couple dwarf Cheery trees, and newer varieties Honey berry plant.
