Sunshine Peat Moss looks to be 100% peat moss not a potting mix, Promix HP is a potting mix (Mixture) of 65% - 75% Peat Moss with 35% - 25% Perlite, Limestone and Wetting agents, http://www.pthorticulture.com/en/pro...-specification .

I've not used the Sunshine product but use (Premier) Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss in most of my potting mix recipes, http://www.ourfigs.com/forum/figs-ho...ng-mix-recipes .

I've used it before. I tried to make my own "Promix" out if it. I mixed sunshine peat moss with perlite and lime( to lower the acidity of 100% peat moss)..and a packet of mycorrhizae with it. Making your own potting mix is cheaper than buying promix but it's a lot of work. I wouldn't suggest using the sunshine peat moss by itself.

3 years ago I used Sunshine #4, which is their answer to HP. A few pallet loads were sitting at my favorite large nursery, right next to their free pots. It was full of fungus gnats and mold affected a lot of the cuttings in it. I still have 90% of the bale in my back yard if you want it.

Hi Bob : Sorry to hear of your bad experience using Sunshine #4. I will simply buy pro-mix to stay away from fungus gnats and mold.
Working...
