After the last two years of winter die back to the ground, I just made some observations of my
in ground trees. The following fifteen trees have already shown some die back and shriveling
of the tips at the lowest temperature of 25 degrees. In addition to that temperature we have
also had strong winds for extended periods. All eighty of my in ground trees are heavily
mulched with pine straw to about one foot above ground level. This information along with
the fact that some of these trees did not produce edible figs the last two years after complete
die back will weigh a great deal on whether I keep them or replace with hardier trees.
Sals Corleone, Vale Negra, Thibodeau, Baskinta Purple, Lounge de Aout, Abicou,
Large Negronne, Malta Mission, Noire de Carombe, Genovese Nero Not Robs, Zingarella,
Nero600m, Black Ischia AD, Petite Negri and JH Adriatic.
