I know a lot of you like experimenting on new methods to improve rooting so has anyone tried using epsom salt right off the bat to help root new cuttings?

Inert is the name of the game for rooting media. You're in the ballpark for texture, but the highly nutrient rich environment would surely kill anything in direct contact. Fertilizers, which Epsom is, usually are acidic & poison in high concentrations. Soils have numerous properties. Your texture is goodbut media (material using instrad of soil) isnt but youre on the right track! Maybe broken glass with limestone chunks & something with slight absorbent quality like peat or the Optisorb.

Epsom salts is still a salt. Sorry, it will kill the cuttings. It will also readily dissolve in contact with water. Likely the same issue with many fertilizers used as a media.
While the issue gets complex, an over abundance of one fertilizer ingredient can block or inhibit the availability of another nutrient(s). PH can also influence the availability.
I amended my post; the narrow range micronutrient between adequate and toxic is boron.

Is this suggestion a troll, haha? Dont people pile straight Epsom salt on stumps from trees they cut down to kill them?-Luke S. at Keesler AFB, 9a

As I read and researched that epsom salt help plants absorption of nutrients and if so then the cuttings would be more efficient in absorbing them therefore it will leaf faster and would help getting roots faster, that’s the reason I asked the questionChandler, AZ Zone 9b.
