I buy 2 VDB cuttings in eBay for $20usd this is item # 291371567006 and I buy few more from Same man. No problem good shipping.
Now this morning I look at figs on eBay and see different seller with different name (Lebanese fig) but same exact picture just zoomEd out a bit. Exact background. Exact empty leaf scar everything. Item #281614706289 Did I get scam or this is the same fig just different name?i am very mad for this. It look like a little color adjust on photo to darken or lighten.

Buying fig material on ebay requires caution-it's buyers beware, there ARE scammers out there taking advantage of folks selling random cuttings as rare expensive varieties. There are often clues that this might be the case, like the photo being reused for different listings.

Take the time to research the seller's history, often they participate on forums such as this one. I've never made a fig purchase on ebay, so take my advise with a grain of salt. but I do peruse the ebay offerings occasionally for entertainment. There have also been numerous discussions on this subject, just do a search.

I personally only try to do business with folks met on forums who have an established identity, ideally who have posted pictures of their plants and harvests which help verify the ID of the material they are distributing.

Do we need a 'respected ebay seller list?'

I think a respected Ebay list would be great. The only problem is with cuttings there's really no way to trust seller and add them
To the list until a forum member grows the cutting to fruiting stage which takes at least 2 seasons. But if any members have done business with people on eBay that they trust that I think it'd be fair to say we could put them up there and trust blindly? I am not upset about the money for the sale of the two cuttings I will be upset if I take the time to root care love this cutting and find out two years from now that it is something I really did not want

There's a list of vetted e-bay sellers on the other forum. Maybe we should start a list here and sticky it.

There is a group on eBay working together scamming people. I sell on eBay mostly common figs that are here in Fresno Ca. I would be extra cautious right now and if you are unsure send me a pm.

Peter seemed like good guy hand writen thank you letter and all. Although his listing pic was the same as others up there. I've questioned him but no response yet.

If I remember correctly, the Korina name is on the scammer list... I'm 100% sure, but I remember it for some reason.

This is why I too do not buy on Ebay.... I would rather buy from a know source and would only buy on Ebay if that source sent me to their Ebay page. Even then, I might shy away, I would rather deal with people without the middle man.

Okay you're correct. Rudy has his face on his user name. Older Indian guy. Peter I got white fig from with ha f written letter. He is civitella_47. He set up a private auction for me. Gave me extra cuttings then I purchased as gift and his cuttings were at least sharpie marker circumference and about 14 inches long each. Nice guy and communicated well with well spoken English over eBay

I purchase panche tiger fig from korina. When I receive the cutting I read this figs branches are striped. Theirs did not have stripe so I question them on this. They requested a picture of what I recieved and after they look at it the agree they sent the wrong cuttings and told me to keep what I had gotten as a gift and they did send me 2 more cuttings that did Infact have stripes on them. They are not growing at all more seems to be dying or rotting away but I will take blame for this as I am semi new to this.

Interesting. It's a shame that we have to be so cautious about what we get and whom we get it from. If you were taken, I'm sorry to hear about it!! Hopefully, things will brighten up and you'll end up with good true to name figs. You may see if anyone has any cuttings still available this year, or make arrangements now for cuttings next year.

Either way, the best of luck to you.

Thanks Scott. I believe in karma. If I end up spending time caring for something I didn't order or want I will still feel good about bringing another tree into the world fruit bearing or not. They will get scammed one day

The first year if I am remembering correctly, I purchased 4 times from ebay, one buy having 6-7 different varieties. No complaints. I was naïve but lucky. After that, I decided to not buy there anymore. Just too much risk (unless you know the vendor - and there are quite a few of good ones) and the prices really were very high for the figs I was interested in. Over time as some prices have risen, there seems to be far too many who are not selling what they say they are selling. So.. buyer beware.

I have bought from Apache and he was listed on the other forum as a good seller. That being said I did not spend very much. I know I got some Desert King, Tashkent and some others.
