WillsC VDB Logs

Hi all, I thought I'd share a photo of the one of the VDB logs I bought from Wills in late January. I received them the first week of February and here's the picture of one of them today. They appear to be growing rapidly as the little branch was just a bud a couple days ago.

The other VDB log I bought I planted upside down and didn't realize it until the buds started to appear. I have since corrected the error and expect it to explode in the next few weeks.

Mine looks very similar! A fast rooter and a good grower. I hope to taste a fig this summer too.

I second the thanks to Wills for this. I keep looking at the 3 feet of snow in my yard and the little things like this are keeping me going.

Many of my other cuttings are doing well too but not as well or as fast as this one. I was really surprised at how fast the VDB logs are rooting/growing.

VdB is a very fast grower! Keep it healthy and it should fruit for you this year.

That looks great. I had 2 of the VDB cuttings in moss. At about 2 weeks 1 had turned black and bark peeled off easily. The other 1 looked just like the day I put it in so it is still fine. When I saw your post today I went ahead put it in a cup with perlite and peat. I believe Wills had said the VDB's were a cutting from a lot younger tree so that may be the difference. Did you start yours in the cup from the beginning?

Yes, I started my VdB cuttings in cups from the beginning. I'm looking forward to seeing how it grows this year.

There's root growth too but it was hard to tell from the picture I took so I didn't include it. These cuttings appear to be about 2 weeks ahead of the other cuttings I have received.

I just started 2 of Wills VDB logs, though not as big as yours. Put them direct into cups, into humidity dome, heat mat with soil temp set at 80F. Started them last Sunday... out of 17 total started, only 2 were VDB, and they are the only 2 showing life already! Note: I hydrated all cuttings in wet sphagum moss (per ASCPete recommendation) for 24 hours before cupping up. I left the wax on both ends. Thanks Wills for healthy cuttings (these will replace my slow growing fmv infected VdB, which I will burn when the snow melts). Although I was hoping not to need light for them this soon!!

Wow, they already look great. Mine took a little while to show any signs of life. I'm eager to see how much they grow this year.
