  • Leafing out

Italian Black is the first to leaf out this year, although all the trees should have leaves within the next 10 -12 days. Of course that's if this arctic blast doesn't completely screw things up here in RI. They are predicting lows of 25 for night time temps. I'm thinking of running a propane heater just to keep things above freezing and avoiding a setback.

Mike, just over the boarder in south east Ct. and in the same boat. Few buds showing but not a leaf in sight. Could use some spring warmth!

        Dave,

I've got temps anywhere between 70 and 80 every day in the greenhouse as long as the sun is shining. This really kicks things into high gear and gets a huge jump on the growing season.
I've actually setup a lawn chair in their just to sit and enjoy the warmth......wife thinks I've completely lost it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that enjoys sitting in the greenhouse! Only problem is, I have it so full now that there isn't enough room to walk, let alone setup a chair!

about all I can do is have a milk crate, I have to watch the temp can get out of hand. It was 101 in there a couple of days ago before I got the door opened. The humidity is so high I have to take my glasses off so I can see. I turn the radio on and set on my crate and watch my chickens

I've noticed the same thing in GH. Temps are in the 70's when sun is shining. Many of my figs are starting to leaf out now.

Let's hope the snow/arctic blast is minimal next week.

            Matt,

It will be the best garden product you ever build / buy. If your somewhat handy you can have it done in a weekend, including beer breaks.

Here is some info to digest.
We are the inventors and manufactures of the Original Low Tunnel and High Tunnel Hoop Benders. Noted gardeners such as acclaimed author Eliot Coleman use our hoop bending tools.

Yea, contemplating building but also thinking about buying the harbor freight 6x8 and heavily fortifying it. I've seen some of your photos of your build, kudos on it!

My Italian Black trees have been dismal failures. One tree is in ground,IIRC for 4 years it has been killed to the ground each winter without any sign of producing fruit. I planted another IB in the ground last year in another location to see if the other was in a bad location or a dud producer. I had high hopes for IB....(((

Mine have been growing in my garage for around 6 weeks now, some have already grown 8" or more. I take them out weather permits... well when I have a driveway.... it was removed the other day and weather has delayed pouring the new one until Monday April 4th..... I hope!!! 😲

Good luck to you all up north, everything here is growing now, all my cuttings is in the shade and it's supposed to drop into the 50's tonight and I'm thinking about bringing the little cuttings in, I'm not sure is 50's will mess with the rooting process of cuttings.

Covered everyone with 3 layers of Agribon AG-19 and ran a propane heater on low all night. Nothing froze so hopefully we can make it through the next few days and get back to sunshine.
