  • Worth the wait Vesuviana Bianca

It's 3 years that I had this tree and it struggled from the first day I got it I thought it was dead many times it would break buds 2 or 3 months after all of my other trees its a Vesuviana Bianca from the foothills of Mt. Vesuvius but I never gave up on it and now it appears all that pampering has paid off she is loaded with little baby figs Can't wait to try them for the first time This tree is very special to me I'm glad she survived

Wow your tree looks like it's doing great! Hopefully you'll get to try both breba and main figs. Looking forward to hear what you think. I had one that struggled to grow for a couple years and finally died last summer. It might be one of those figs that are hard to get established but once you do it grows like crazy.

Looks great Dave. I started mine last year so can't wait to get to this point. Mine is also special to me. My late grandfather came from that area.

Did you do anything special last year, last fall or give it a better place in winter storage?

Any idea on why its growing better now?

Good question Kevin last year I repotted all my trees into Promix HP I was doing one of those peat moss ,bark chips, perlite etc mixes and didn't like it . And yes I did give it few potions from my local Hydroponic store I couldn't tell you what everytime I go into that store I hold out my arms and he loads me up with chemicals you know how those stores are it's like going into Frankensteins laboratory you need a degree in Chemistry to know what they are talking about Did it all help I don't know

I have a local Hydroponics store and I know exactly what you mean, they know how to grow "plants".

Very dangerous place to go ...

I think this is one of those varieties that struggle a little more with FMV but with a little extra care they could overcome that Theres an old post on F4F that Maggie Italiangirl74 talks a little bit about it Vito your on the list for cuttings

Well what did you expect. True to name it sits around and does nothing and then suddenly blows up in your face! Congratulations! I'd definitely continue the fertigation with micros. Was it plain HP or did it have Mycorrhizae in it as well? HP needs to be watered fairly often. I over come that by adding some pine bark chips. Less than 30% of the total but they hold moisture better than the HP by itself.

BTW, You can add me to that 30 page long list of people who want cuttings

Thanks, Dave. Forgot about that post. That's a nice looking fig, with an unusual pale pulp. Would be interesting to see a main crop.
