Oh yeah steelhead are on fire here right now. We got some real nice fish last weekend. I too tie my own flies but is getting harder and harder. My fingers are all beat yo from work and is hard to get a steady hold on bobbin. I like bass Fishin with mice pattern like these... Soon I'm going to sell my thing desk because I just can't do anymore and my stuff is just sitting here. I have wayyyy too much stuff!

I just fish for carp and pike, fly fishing is not that popular over here.
Here's some Dutch fresh water monsters caught by yours truly...

I know WillsC is a great fisherman too. He's in Florida and has the greatest fishery in the world imo the ocean! This fish is my favorite because it's beautiful teeth color....

I have about $7000.00 worth of trying materials and tools im going to itemize and eBay it in fall. But before I do so are any of you guys interested in tying materials or tools. I've got stuff to tie everything. Including an entire cape of rare jungle @@@@ feathers and a patch of fresh polar bear fur. I can't tie anymore. I'd trade for fig trees or cuttings.

If you like tying flies and would like some duck feathers this upcoming fall, let me know -- I can usually provide a lot with a wide variety of species (like Wood Ducks, teal, etc). I like to utilize every bit of the animals that I take if at all possible and I think a beautifully tied fly is a good secondary use of the resource (the primary use being, of course, providing food for my table)...

Grazie for your generous offer. I have so many feathers I can open my own pillow store ahah! But if you know how to cure the capes (dry them out) people do buy and sell quite a bit on eBay. Is better then throwing away.

Yes, I can cure the capes quite easily ... I can give them away all day long but since they are from harvested migratory birds it would be illegal for me to sell them.... so I usually gift them to fly-tying buddies (and use them myself)... sometimes I score some pretty nice flies in the exchange. I also give many, many feathers to my students ( I teach at a performing arts school ) and they do some pretty neat projects with them --

Back in the day, I use to fish every day in Spring, Summer and Winter. Back when I lived in Illinois. Then I joined a fishing club and started fishing in Bass tournaments. The tournaments took all the fun out of fishing and I gave it up and went back to figs. I did do some fly fishing in Turkey back in 1988. Caught some monster brook trout over there! Fly fishing is a lot fun. You just have to have a lot of room to cast and throw.

Kinda like surfing contests...it steals the "soul" out of the activity....

IMO a perfect day fishing is catching Bluegills on a fly/popping bug

You re very correct. I actually guide fishing around Midwest area and for me when I have demanding clients it takes the fun and teaching out of it. I also have 3 lake infront of my home I teach fly casting and methods of still water fishing to neighbors and children and I am a block from a big river I teach river fly fishing on.

Those are beautiful Taverna. I only tie Crappie and bluegill jigs. I'd be interested in the polar bear patch. Maybe we can trade for trees.

I didn't realize you are near Chicago. I don't know what figs I have that will make it there or do you keep your figs in pots. I have many varieties is there anything in particular you're looking for. If not what's your favorite dark or light figs.

Yes I am in Chicago but I grow everything. I grow fig in pot as baby and then in ground once big enough. We have maybe 100 5feet plus taller trees in the ground on farm. But all are from Taverna and Sorbo San Bailse CZ Italia. We cover or put under ground every winter. you ave cutting or planted?
