  • Loving the growth

Sorry to be the "proud dad", but I haven't had much to share with the group until recently.

In Nov of last year I bought a tiny JHA in a tree pot from Wills and some RDB cuttings from Kelby. They survived all of my attempts to assassinate them through the winter, and here they are today:

JHA is about 4 feet and the growth is incredible. Compared to my other trees in pots, the leaves are so much lusher. I don't really know why. I pinched the top to see if I could get it to branch out a bit, and I got the Y you see now in weeks. I intended to remove the figs to help it grow, but it seems to be growing just fine. From what I've read, this is a late variety, so I hope to taste something in another month or two.

In Nov of 2015, this was a stick about 6 inches long. Now it is 3-4 feet. The cuttings Kelby sent me were all very fresh and grew vigorously. The other 4 cuttings are in pots. One of those already ripened 2 figs. I wasn't in town when they ripened, but my wife tells me they melted in her mouth. I'm really upset she ate my first two figs Click image for larger version

Cuttings to figs in 8 months, or less. Cultivar matters. So does zone 9. That JHA doesn't seem to be far behind. Both look great. They seem to have everything they need: the mulch, the support, and other care. Great work.

Everything looks so green and lush, I guess the humidity helps.

Lots and lots of gulf coast rain this year too.

Those look fantastic!!! But they look like they are in the ground, not pots?
Want: Marseilles Black, Col de Dame (any), figs that do great in zone 9b (new to figs, so no fig trades, but have other plant types)

Yes, they are in ground. Not pictured are the various ones in pots. They haven't grown as fast or big.

I moved from Houston to Canyon Lake in 1980. I remember well how things grow so well in ground over there.

    Good job.

Nice! Those are some fabulous looking trees. And frankly, the green lushness of the grass is distracting. There is not a single green blade to be found near where I currently am.

Haha. My goal has been to replace as much of the grass as possible with food producing plants. We've had so much rain this year, so that's has been great for lowering my water bill.
