  • Madeliene des Deux Saisons

Anyone growing this one? There seems to be some contradictory info out there and I'd appreciate anyone sharing their first hand experiences. I saw FMD visited a french orchard that grows it and checked out the orchards website which gives a brief description of the variety.

(Having trouble posting those links, sorry)

I rooted a cutting of this variety, so perhaps in a couple years I can answer my own question, but I would rather not wait!

I'm growing it but mine is in its 1st year. I'm hoping to get fruit next year. One thing I have been meaning to research is whether the main crop is late, mid, or early season and how cold hardy it is compared to Mt. Etna's etc.

I got a fig from mine last year, it was a green fig with a red interior. Very tasty. I saw a post where this was pictured as a dark fig, so I don't know who has the wrong named fig. Mine is from a friend here in Virginia who rates it as one of his favorites.

Could you please post a pic of your plant in order to compare leaves?

Are you sure you don't mean Blanche de Deux Saisons? I'm pretty sure MdDS is supposed to be a dark fig.

Rewton, you are correct. I'm not sure how I missed that. My bad. I don't have Madeliene des Deux Saisons.

I also have a young BdDS and am looking forward to comparing it to the MdDS. It sounds likely you got yours from the same source in Virginia that I got mine from. I'm glad you like the fig.

Keep us posted, Jesse. I looked at them for the bifereous traits, but glowing reviews were lacking. Do you have Grise de St Jean? Same idea as the others, recommended on Baud's site. I got one last fall that has been very vigorous and will fruit heavily this year. No brebas yet.

I likewise pursued varieties that could yield breba crop(or exceptionally early maincrop)figs this past winter. I haven't got GdSJ, but look forward to hearing more about it.

Mine is painfully slow growing and didn't get a fig in its second year. I got it from Richard Watts. Also some photos of grise st jean which was delicious
