  • What to do with 200 Black Mission Figs? How about Pizza...

A friend has a couple black mission trees and they invited me over to pillage them while they were on vacation. I got about 200 figs from the 2 trees and they just called today letting us know more are ready. We made jam, I dried some figs, we made crepes with fig filling, and then made some pizza for a group of 15 the other night. Tonight we revisited the pizza again. Just as good the second time around as the first

Just wanted to share some of the fun part that comes along with all the work!

The pizza looks like it was good! There's nothing like a fresh homemade pizza with figs.
With any surplus figs you could make your own fig newtons, fig liqueur, grilled figs or figs stuffed with cheese.

I have 2 large mason jars and a smaller one sitting in the cabinet infusing currently. 2 are Brandy, 1 is Vodka. Im always open to new recipes and things to do with them. We made frozen yoghurt with them last year which was great.

Great haul! The pizza looks yummy.

I got my first mission fig a couple days ago. It was huge and very tasty.

I am surprised the Black Mission fig dosn't get more press.

My guess is that Black Mission are pretty accessible so most people dont give them too much love. They are really good and seem to be very prolific.

Bakery counter at the grocery store for the pizza dough
              Olive Oil
              Feta Cheese
              Prosciutto
              4 Black Mission figs
              Red Onion
              Fresh Basil
              Fig Infused Balsamic Vinegar

              Preheat oven to 425
Brush the dough with olive oil, cover with a layer of feta cheese, and layer on your red onions, drizzle with balsamic.
Bake for 18-20 (crust will brown, just make sure the cheese doesnt burn)
Add prosciutto, add thinly sliced Black Mission figs, drizzle with more balsamic, add fresh basil leaves.

When everything is added, I left it for a couple minutes to warm up the additional ingredients but I did not put it back into the oven. Slice and serve.

Looks yummy. I hope to have enough extras to try something like that this year.

Turn and swirl daily. I've been told 7 days and I've been told 30 days. That's why there's a small jar... need something to sip daily til it's at its prime
