  • New Black/White Triana from figtrees.net

    Hello all,

I made my yearly trip to figtrees.net and picked up both a Black and White Triana this time. I already have an Italian Honey and Paradiso/Genova from them.

I also had a nice chat with Joe. I wish I took some pictures. He literally has 100's of trees out back. He also has a couple "parent" trees that were very interesting shapes.

I may have to make another trip in the Fall sometime.

Here are some pictures of my new trees. The White Triana is the larger tree.

It was really tough to walk out of there with only two fig trees. Reasonably priced too, the larger one was $55.

I had the same problem when I visited Tim Clymer at http://www.threefoldfarm.org/store, I was limited to what would fit in my checked luggage and be able to get back what I took on the trip.

Those look nice. I got some from Joe years ago. He has nice stuff.

Nice looking plants, and I admire your self-control to only bring home two!
Must be a fun place just to visit and look around too.

I had a White Triana breba a couple of weeks ago, it was pretty good. Not sure if the main crop figs will ripen in time before cold weather. I am excited to see how sweet they are.

I didn't realize that white triana had a breba crop too. Something else to look forward to.

Are the figs at the same location as the florist?

Yes, they are. There's a small sign that says figtrees.net next to the parking lot. Only about 45 minutes from me (framingham/natick area).

Yes, I'm very happy with them. I only wish he had a larger black triana and i had a larger vehicle. Next time I'll try to fit 3 trees in my car.

I'm thinking a votata, san pietro and ... not sure about the third one yet.

Thanks, Sarina. Very happy I live near a nursery that sells well established fig trees. It saves me a couple years before I taste the figs.

    Kevin,

Is the selection of cultivars greater that what is on their website?

Nope, i only saw the ones that he had on the website.

Maybe not the most exotic varieties but the ones I have are productive and tasty.

Looking forward to the trying the White/Black Triana's in a month or so.

I sure hope they are great!!

Last year when I visited figtrees.net he had available about a half dozen varieties that weren't on his website. During subsequent visits I only saw the trees that were listed. So far the most vigorous and productive is La Goccia d'Oro which will be ripening it's first ones shortly. I have two White Triana and they have grown painfully slow, it appears to have a bad case of fmv.

thanks for commenting. I hadn't even been considering a La Goccia d'Oro but I might now.

      How's the flavor on them?

The La Goccia d'Oro is one of the two I'm looking at from figtrees.net.

La Goccia d'Oro and Black Triana.

Since you just got Black Triana, you can put a check on that box.

Me too... Joe's place is a 3 hour drive from me but I was considering running up there with my RAM and tempting divorce with a full truck on returning home... :-) He seems to have a solid offering of varieties....

Last spring I had my daughter pick me up one of each of the small size except Brown Turkey. This year they are all 4 ft tall and loaded. I had 8-10 brebas on the petite negra.

La Goccia d'Oro has a number of figs that should ripen if the crows don't get them first. I'll post pics when available and let you know what I think of the flavor. If you want cuttings let me know.

Thanks, Scott. I have a bunch more white trianas and a couple black trianas to go. I'll definitely let them ripen more before picking.
